Battle of the Electronic Music Giants
What began as a conversation in a cafe ended as series of successful shows to over 3000 people.
Utilising 30 meters of LED strip, 30+ AA batteries, 16 hours of soldering and electronic design, 23 coats of paint, 2 motorcycle hermits, 2 leather jackets, half a kilometre of DMX cable and 12 hours of audio editing my team and I created an audio visual show to ‘melt the faces’ of 1500 freshers.
Projection mapped visuals lit up the 10 foot x 10 foot offset cube stage, replicating the stages of both Deadmau5 and Daft Punk, who coincidently both hired the the same stage designer for their live shows.
DeadmauS aka Joel Zimmerman a canadian electronic producer superstar and Daft Punk aka Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, the French duo had inspired me to recreate the magic of their live shows, but with a twist. Instead of the usual one after another festival line-up I wanted to see what happens when you get both on stage at-the-same-time!
As booking the real artists to perform against each other would cost well over a quarter of a million pounds (we asked) we decided to recreate the magic for a smaller budget (final spend £204.30)Every single aspect of the show was hand built. The LED modules came from china and were painstakingly sewn and soldered into the fabric of the suits yet remained reliable enough to survive us sweating and dancing in the them for hours.
